Sophie and I had a lovely shoot, we went hunting for fairies and butterflys and sang songs while the sun shone through the trees. There was lots of beautiful colour and it was so nice to be outside. Bliss!

self portrait { wagga portrait photography }
What happens when you get one late night, a commercial shoot for sunglasses, a deadline and a photographer? A self portrait with sunglases on. At night, in the bathroom. Of course.

what to wear { for girls }
Another what to wear installment from the Rocket Ranch, with help from the crew at Pumpkin Patch. I tried to do one for boys too, but the shirts all had bit pictures on them, so no luck there.

spring is coming
Pattersons curse is blooming so spring must be just around the corner. I snapped this on my iphone when I was walking Bear on the weekend. This is one of the best times of the year for location portraits and even though I know Patterons Curse is a weed its a beautiful colour. If i can find a paddock full of it somewhere, i have a bright yellow timber high chair to put in it. Now i just need a cute kid to put in the highchair....
riley { seven months old }
Riley was not at all impressed with my music skills ( or rather, my lack of music skills ) but he did think me shakin' it all about with my bells was mildly entertaining. He was completely fascinated by Widget, the studio cat, and he gave me some cute smiles and some serious looks too. I took lots of close ups of his face, his eyes are just so beautiful.
( The blue and white stiped hat with the pom poms is from the MILK collection, but the blue knitted one is Riley's )

favourites on fridays
Some of my current favourite things:
1. Fresh juice by Golden Circle that i recently discovered at the supermarket. Sooo yummy and a serve of fruit and vegies in every glass. For someone who spends half their life eating chocolate, thats a really good thing.
2. Things that smell good. Recently i bought a melt burner ( is that the technical name? ) Kind of like an oil burner but it melts soy things that smell nice. So i have mango, lime and one that smells like relaxation. Which is nice.
3. The Body Shop. Whenever i go to sydney i stock up. Smells fabulous and has fair trade products and environmentally friendly packaging too. The papaya lip gloss is a current favourite.
4. Weekends off. I think this is my last one. Two days off in a row... thats special! Craig is away so I am planning on doing really exciting things like cleaning out my kitched cupboards. Weddings start next weekend and i wont get time till my christmas holidays to do stuff like that. If i get creative i might try and do some sewing too. And painting.
5. Friendly sales assistants. Really, they can just make your day.
Ok so Friday Favourites is probably a bit silly and i dont know if i will keep doing it, but i think that it gets you looking for things to be happy about, and that leads to finding things that make you happy. and then you are happier. and we love happy. its a favourite!!

anastasia { six months old } wagga wagga child photographer
When I was little I had a cabbage patch kid called Anastacia. So i was kind of expecting Anastasia to have bright red yarn hair and green eyes, but she didnt. She was much cuter. Lots of serious expressions that I love.

lottie { twelve months old } wagga wagga portrait photographer
The rain is pouring down outide again, but you wouldnt know it to look at the sunshine yellow in Lottie's photos. Her raspberry jacket reminds me of spring. I loved the vintage dress and it went perfectly with my favourite yellow chair. Luckily Lottie agreed and was more than happy to sit up in the chair and give me some smiles. Towards the end of the session I changed her outfit to some cute little blue bloomers and got out the old suitcase for her to sit on. She declined my invitation, but her big brother Jude decided it looked like a good seat. Then he gave me his best "I am not smiling" expression. See why I love kids?

the MILK collection
MILK stands for Mother-in-law Knitted. When i say something is from the milk collection, its something that she has knitted for the studio. How lucky am i to have such a talent for a mother-in-law? These hats and things make regular appearances in photo shoots.

renee and adam { waiting for baby }
I met the fabulous Renee and Adam many years ago and had the honour of photographing their wedding. I was a bit excited when Adam slipped up and said they were expecting before they had made a full announcement! When I booked them for their shoot Renee said they were up for anything, but as it was too cold to put them in the river we just went outside and caught the last of the beautiful winter light. I cant wait to meet their new little person, who is due any day now.

sophie { twelve months old }
I know I'm not supposed to have favourites. But my first years have a special place in my heart. They really do. I usually do a newborn, and often a maternity as well, and then a three month, one around the six to eight month mark, and another shoot at twelve months. So i feel like i get to watch them grow up. All those adorable little quirks.
Like when i laid down on the floor to get a shot of her toes, and she leaned over like this to see what i was doing, all the while stuffing cake in her mouth. Makes my heart melt with happiness.

family on the farm
This is the second time I have shot this lovely family on their fabulous farm. This time they had extended family over from Canada to visit, so we wanted to capture them all together with an Australian flavour. Cant get much more Australian than gum trees. The weather played the game for us and it was so nice to get out of the studio!

a change of direction
Recent events have made me realise I need to spend more time with my friends and family, and I need to start taking better care of myself. I need to take on work that i really truly love, and i need to seek out and shoot creative things that make me strive to be a better photographer, and a better person. Unfortunately there is only so much of me to go around, and something had to give.
Very recently I made the decision to put a hold on wedding bookings, at least for the moment. The portrait side of the business has really started to take off, and nothing makes me happier than photographing babies and kids. So we are changing direction here a little bit.
I have had an amazing time shooting weddings, and met some wonderful people, but for the moment i feel its time to make the business really strong by concentrating all my energy on one particular area.
I still have a lot of weddings booked in for this year, and some for next year too, but I wont be taking any more bookings. I have written, deleted and rewritten this blog post dozens of times. Its a tough decision to make, and who knows what the future holds. Maybe this time next year you will see another blog post sharing the news that weddings are back on. But, for now, Skye Rocket Studio is going from 'weddings and portraits' to just 'portraits'. Wish me luck!

display idea
Pale green is a great colour to paint the nursery before baby is born as you can decorate it for either a boy or a girl. Add a lovely gallery in white frame and you have a winner!

I last saw these two cuties when Molly was only a little baby. Sophie is a fabulous big sister, and its never an easy job being the older one.
