studio or location?

Its sometimes hard to choose between a studio and a location session. The studio look is very simple, white background, maybe a prop or two. Location offers a range of different backgrounds, colours, textures and light. Sometimes it also presents a lot more complications, like ants the size of  teacups and mozzies the size of small planes. And the weather can be an issue too, and location shoots need to be done around the best light.

So really it comes down to personal choice, look through the blog and the website and see what your favourite images are.

A more structured wall gallery needs to ... well, be structured, whereas an organic style gallery can mix it up a bit more. Often an organic style gallery can be added to easier over time, but it really depends on where you hang your gallery. Or you can do a mix of both and use a centre line as your starting point.

no email!

My computer is in the hospital again. So i have no access to email or to photo shop, but on the bright side you can see the floor in my walk-in robe, and i havent seen it in months.

Hope you are all having a lovely week.

display ideas { photo shelf }

If you like to swap your pictures around all the time, then a photo shelf is great.
You can change your display without having to put any more holes in the wall.

The colour scheme is pretty consistent in these examples.

jade { ten months old }

My little baby girl is growing up too fast! She's ten months old now. In double digits. In two months time she will be one. One year old!!

I bought this Sooki Baby dress in Sydney and thought an urban location shoot would suit. The flower is from my props box, its my favourite red one. This is her first time sitting on the kids chair, and daddy is just off camera to keep an eye on her.

alex, abbey + linc on location

It was raining just a wee bit, but we already had the teepee set up so the session was on a roll. It finished on a high note with cupcakes and cuddles.

ava { on location } childrens portrait photography

Ava's shoot was part of the mini sessions we did on location recently. Look at all that gorgeous long hair. I remember the first time i did Ava's photos, i had just moved into the current studio, but the actual studio wasnt finished and I had to do the session in what is now the viewing room. We had some balloons at the session and I have a shot of Ava with the balloons tied to her wrist and her looking at me with a not very impressed look on her face. This time she loved the balloons.

malakai and kaleb

Malakai and Kaleb were part of my mini sessions. Our inspiration was black and white circus. Their fabulous mum did the styling for their shoot. These boys are rock stars, but i think Malakai ( the eldest ) has a natural flair for being in front of the camera. He loved it. Altough he did insist on hiding a rabbit under his hat and using his wand to turn my camera into a naughty puppy.

Go for expression over that perfect look-at-the-camera smile. Then you will smile every time you look at it. For modern simplicity try a canvas print ( or four ). No framing required.

a maternity session for kylee

Kylee is due to have baby #2 any day now, and I just cant wait to photograph the baby. She didnt find out if she is having a boy or a girl so i have ideas for both. Either will probably feature my new vintage pram.

The fabulous Kath and Jess did a great job on the hair and makeup in the bottom four shots, you can check out the Hair Rehab facebook page. They also do an amazing job covering up grey hairs. Not that i ever had any.

jade by briony

I think Jade is at such a great age to photograph right now. Still a baby, but showing her personality. Sitting up really well all by herself. And she has hair and cant crawl yet. The fabulous Briony from Hardinge Photography took some photos of Jade and I just love them. I love watching Briony work. I would never have shot on my white lounge, with just a white onesie but its just so simple. And the series of Jade laughing, they were just laughing at each other, and I love how Briony captured the way Jade laughs at the moment, with her funny little wrinkled up nose. By just standing back and letting Briony do her thing I got some absolutely beautiful images of Jade just being Jade. Simple. Gorgeous.
