what to wear

I bet a large majority of my clients shop online. The kids are in bed, you can munch on that chocolate without having to share, and its quite. The following clothes were all found online at one site, Babys Got Style. I subscribe to the newsletter so all this cute stuff ends up in my inbox.

 Gorgeous blue tutu from Alex and Ant, in other colours too. Match it with a pretty shirt. Find it here.
A seaside kaftan from Little Horn, find it here
These bloomers are divine, pick one of the colours out of the pattern for a shirt, from here

And boys are so much harder to shop for but i found some spunky stuff, like this midnight check shirt, find it here
( and if you have an older boy and a baby girl, match this shirt with denim shorts and the bloomers above with a white or red singlet or shirt for her )

If i had a boy i would be buying this hat

Cowboys are cute, especially with some dark jeans, find it here

what to wear

Please excuse the poor quality of these shots, i took them on my iphone through a shop window at night time ( after craig took me out for dinner at Hogs Breath - yum! )!  I snapped the pics cause i thought these were great outfits for girls photo sessions.I tried to find the outfits on the website to get some better images but could only find the black and white striped dress with the tulle skirt. I am loving the scrunchy sock leggings things with the boots and the sneakers, and the scarf and hat finish it off. These outfits are perfect for an autum location session.

I find boys outfits harder to do as they all seem to have big pictures and graphics on the shirts, which i find a bit distracting in a photo. But i managed to put these two outfits together. A red hat or beanie would go great with the red striped shirt too, maybe even a red belt...

Have fun shopping!

Outfits are all from Pumpkin Patch!

what to wear { some finds at the mathilda markets }

I had to visit Canberra on the weekend and found some time to swing into the Mathildas Markets. Eye candy! I have put the next markets in my diary for when my bub is born.

In the meantime i thought it only fair to share what i found with my fab blog readers, in case any of you want to do some online shopping.

First up is Little Monstas who have the funkiest dresses. Why do i always seen to find more stuff for girls than boys? They do have some funky boys stuff as well, but i was in love a dress with bold black and white type on it. If they had a skirt in my size i would have bought it!

Ivy Daisy has some gorgeous vintage inspired dresses and tees with lace embellishments on them, Looking at You Kid has some cute little bloomers and singlets on sale...

happy shopping!

what to wear { finding inspiration }

Found this fabulous site during my internet travels. The site is called Polyvore and you can use it to create some mood boards that might help you plan your outfit for a photo shoot. There are literally hundreds on there, and you could pick a piece of clothing, say a denim jacket, and find outfits to wear with it. Or red shoes. Or something with a little French flair... I do warn you though, if you are into fashion then this site is rather addictive and may make you reach for the credit card and hit the shops!

what to wear

A couple of clients have mentioned the absence of any what to wear posts recently, and the inspiration ones as well. So i thought I better try and put something up!

This is more of an "accessories to bring" than a "what to wear" post, and from the wonderful site of And the Little Dog Laughed.

 The crocheted blanekts are divine, and would be perfect on my vintage pram ( or yours if you have one! ) and work wonderfully with vintage style bloomers and flower headbands.

The knitted toys have a timeless appeal, my favourite is Nellie the dog, but the monkey is also a bit of a sweetie. Even better if they work in the colour scheme of the outfits the kids are wearing.

what to wear { family session }

Picking a colour palette is a great way to get your outfits to look photogenic together without being too matchy-matchy. Mums dress is the start point, and then the blues and fuschia are picked up out of that.

what to wear { for boys } wagga portrait photography

I seem to find boys what to wear posts harder than girls. They always seem to have text and big images on their shirts, but i dont mind this one. Its kinda funky. From Pumpkin Patch.

what to wear { family session }

I have three main pieces of advice for what to wear.
1. Your outfits need to be tonally similiar but it doesnt have to be the same colour. So all the same type of tone - dark, light, pastel, bright etc.
2. Choose a colour palette. In the example above its red, chocolate and grey. Try not to have more than three colours, but you can usually add black, white and denim and it still works.
3. Dont be too perfectly co-ordinated. And you really dont have to wear jeans and white t-shirts. If you wont go out for dinner in your outfits you have selected for your photo shoot then maybe you are just a bit too co-ordinated.

The example above would look great in the studio but would also look fabulous on location.

Extra tip : for small girls still wearing nappies, if they wear a skirt make sure to put some cute nappy covers or footless leggings on underneath so if they sit down you cant see the nappy in the photos.

what to wear { for girls }

Another what to wear installment from the Rocket Ranch, with help from the crew at Pumpkin Patch. I tried to do one for boys too, but the shirts all had bit pictures on them, so no luck there.

what to wear { for girls }

Is it just me or are girls so much more fun to dress up? This will be a super quick post, cause its twenty to six on a Friday night and I told myself i would knock off at six cause i have to work tomorrow.

Anyway, I came across these divine headbands today, I only had a quick look ( fifteen minutes to go! ) but wow, they would be so great for photo shoots? Oh and even though the shots are by Skye, its not me ( i wish! ) its a different skye. and i thought i was unique!

what to wear { for girls }

My clients have know about this brand for a while, but today i just clicked over to the website. Ohh, the colours, the lace, the beanies... Beautiful!

How do i get a job photographing their next catalogue? Although I actually prefer the outfit without the fur vest... just my personal taste!

what to wear? { for babies }

The question i get asked most is "what do we wear?" I will try and do some blog posts with some ideas of what i think work well for a photo shoot. Of course, you may have ideas of your own that you want to try.

These little onesies are from Pumpkin Patch and you can get them online or instore. they are such pretty colours (they have ones for boys too)

If you want plain white ones these are from
Eeni Meeni, you can get them online or in Wagga at Moo Too.
When bubba is starting to sit up, little nappy covers are the cutest. Plain little singlet optional. These one are from oobi baby, which has some of the cutest clothes, and you can order them online from Babys Got Style, or here in Wagga you can get some at Uneke. They have cute one for boys too. Boys are harder. Just try to get some funky little shirts, so we can get their oh-so-cute bubba chubby bellies. Oobie has some really cute hats for babies, get them in a colour to math their outfit.

And thats about all you need!

I shoot newborns mostly nudie, but a little onesie or nappy covers are cute too.
